Welcome to the 2020-2021 Winter Youth Basketball League Information Center. On this page you will be able to find team rosters and schedules, as well as any updates to the WYBL. Please locate the respective grade division below for more information.

Each session will start at the designated time and players will either work on skill development as a group or break-up into their respective teams. Games will begin no later than 15-minutes after the start time.

Week 1 Skill Development & Challenge

OK everyone! Here we go. Let's work on improving our ballhandling in Week 1. Here is a challenge that all grade levels can participate in.

Modification: Slowly roll the basketball against your body until you go around your back and to the front again. Remember the goal is to improve with each attempt and each day. (If you drop the ball pick it up and keep going!)

In this video Cape Henlopen Girl's Basketball star, Mehkia Applewhite, gives maximum effort and pushes herself. She also holds the Factory Sports record!

Week 2 and Winter Break Player Development

Check out a couple videos that we find helpful.

a. The BASICS OF DRIBBLING. Excellent for any of our age divisions! You are never too old or too good of a player to work on your fundamentals.

  • It is important not to slap at the ball.

b. Importance of SPREADING OUT and not bunching together.

  • The closer the group of players, the harder it is to pass the ball to a teammate.

c. Players should always want to be "SQUARE" to the basket. These means your shoulders and chest should be facing the basket.

  • Practice tossing the ball to yourself (It is helpful to spin it backwards to it comes to you).
  • Catch the ball.
  • Pivot until you are square to the basket.

You can practice this without a basket or ball. Find an object and practice squaring up by using a pivot.

Week 3

Welcome back from Winter Break. The games resume this week. Coaches expect the players to be rusty and a review of skills will take place prior to games. Teams have been adjusted to help keep the league competitive and we should start seeing teams form a chemistry from here on out. Please see below for some skills the players can work on.

SHOOTING - Here is a quick fun shooting drill that can be worked on at home with our without a hoops. This is excellent for players in all divisions.
